The next UUCPA Humanist Roots Group pot-luck dinner party is scheduled for
When:Saturday, October 2, 6 PM
Where: Fireside Room
Discussion Leader: Emma Pan
Discussion Topic:The bright side and dark side of human nature
Emma has given quite a bit of thought to the question of why -- despite centuries of moral teaching -- ordinary people can be so cruel or uncompassionate to other ordinary people, of why authority figures can exploit human hopes and fears so easily, of why stories of injustice and atrocities never seem to end. She sees this as reflecting something deep in human nature, something in you and me that we would prefer not to admit to, something that we need to understand if we are serious about wanting to bring more justice and compassion to our own small world. If you think that humanism can contribute anything to solving this core problem, be sure to come and share your thoughts.
As usual, you are all welcome to attend. To help with the planning, please let me know what you would like to bring to share:
hors d'oeuvres
salad
vegan veggie dish
non-vegan veggie dish
meat dish
baked dessert
fruit dessert
soft-drinks
wine
Best wishes,
