In September, UUCPA opens its doors to Hotel de Zink, serving 12-18 homeless men and women who are working to achieve stable housing by providing dinner each night, a safe space for sleeping in our Sunday School rooms and showers. Our congregation can be very proud of its young people and their eagerness to help those less fortunate. In addition to the money raised during September’s offering ($220 at this writing) and the donations of food and cooked meals by individuals, two groups of our young people have contributed their time and efforts, too.

Last Saturday night, our Senior High Youth Group met in the church kitchen, and created delicious lasagna, garlic bread, tossed salad and frosted cupcakes for our guests while Youth Advisors Dave Joki and Eleanor Lin and Rev. Eva looked on. The recipients were very grateful and thanked our youth with applause and spirited conversation.

Sunday morning the 11:00 Rainbow QUUest group focused on the second UU principle, “justice, equity and compassion in human relations.” After learning about the founder of the National Urban League, UU Whitney Young, the group also put “transformation of evil” into practice and baked lovely heart-shaped sugar cookies for our September guests.
