AUNTIE MAME

She was Rosalind Russell in the play in 1956 and in the movie in 1958.  She was Angela Lansbury in the Broadway musical in 1966, and she was Lucille Ball in the Hollywood musical in 1974.  In the Thespian reading in 2006 she might be YOU.

  • When: Monday December 11 at 7:00 (only reading)
  • Where: Room 10
  • What: AUNTIE MAME by JEROME LAWRENCE and ROBERT LEE based on the book by PATRICK DENNIS
  • Who: UUCPA Thespians
  • Why: To laugh and LAUGH & L A U G H.

But Mame Dennis is not the only great character part.  You might be her wealthy Southern husband Beauregard Burnside or his uncompromising mother.  You might be the stuffy banker Mr. Babcock, or the even stuffier Upsons, Claude, Doris, and their air-headed daughter Gloria.  There’s the Irish adventurer Brian O’Bannion.  Or Agnes Gooch, a name-choice worthy of Dickens.  Oh, and don’t forget Mame’s good friends the drunken actress Vera Charles and the long-suffering publisher Lindsay Woolsey.  Plus about two dozen minor characters!

Yep.  Everyone who shows up will get to read a part.  Make a reservation for Monday, December 11 in Room 10.  Call me or send an email to  thespians-info@uucpa.org .  Or just show up promptly at 7 pm..
