ENGLISH BEDROOM FARCE

When the French say, "Bedroom Farce" they mean mistaken identities, people going in and out of doors and just missing each other, and beds not used for sleeping.  But November's playwright, Alan Ayckbourn, is English.

When:       Monday November 14, 2005 at 7:00
Where:      FIRESIDE ROOM
What:        Bedroom Farce
                 by Alan Ayckbourn
Who:         UUCPA Thespians
Why:         Just to have fun

The "stage" consists of the master bedrooms in three different houses and the action is mostly conversation.  Nick is the only one actually on a bed, and that's because he has thrown his back out.  Which means that his wife Jan has to go alone to the house warming party of  Malcolm and Kate, a young couple who delight in playing practical jokes on each other.  Which is why Kate is hiding naked under the bedclothes when Trevor, the first guest and a former lover of Jan, arrives and is told to leave his coat in the bedroom.  His wife, Susannah, arrives separately, just in time to see Trevor and Jan kissing each other.  Meanwhile, in the third bedroom, Trevor's parents, Ernest and Delia are celebrating their anniversary by eating pilchard and toast in bed.

Well, Trevor and Susannah have a big fight which breaks up the party and everyone goes home.  Everyone, that is except Trevor who goes to Nick and Jan's "to explain things" to Nick, and Susannah who goes to Ernest and Delia's to pour out her troubles.  Needless to say, explanations do not explain and the pouring of troubles does not make them go away.

Which of these 8 characters will YOU  be?  To find out, send me an email: (thespians-info@uucpa.org), call me, or just show up on Monday, November 14.
