Thespians
Philip's Commentary

SOLID GOLD PLEASURE
Unlike our January reading, This month’s play is neither subtle nor challenging nor insightful. It is pure escape literature, at its clever best.
- When: Monday, February 12 at 7:00 or Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00
- Where: Room 10 (Monday) or 9 (Tuesday)
- What: THE SOLID GOLD CADILLAC by GEORGE S. KAUFMAN and HOWARD TEICHMANN
- Who: UUCPA Thespians
- Why: To chase away the February blues
The four villains are so despicable that you can’t hate them or feel sorry for them when they finally get what they deserve. And the heroine, Mrs. Laura Partridge, is “a dumpy little woman, a real charmer but tough.” In the first scene she shows up at a stockholder’s meeting of General Products Corporation of America with her ten shares of stock and asks some embarrassing questions about the salary of the Chairman of the Board; and in the last scene she . . . but I shouldn’t spoil the suspense. Of course the ending is happy, but you’ll have to come to our reading to find out if she
(a) marries the boss?
(b) rescues the boss?
(c) reforms the boss?
(d) is the boss?
(e) all of the above?
Reading the play won’t make you a better person, but it will make you a happier one. And I guarantee you a part on Monday February 12 or Tuesday February 27. To make a reservation, call me or send an email to thespians-info@uucpa.org . Or just show up promptly at 7 pm.
