Brown Bag Books – December 2020 Update

The Brown Bag Books selection for December is “Dear America:  Notes of an Undocumented Citizen” by Jose Antonio Vargas (Non Fiction).

“This is not a book about the politics of immigration. This book—at its core—is not about immigration at all. This book is about homelessness, not in a traditional sense, but about the unsettled, unmoored psychological state in which undocumented immigrants like me find ourselves. This book is about lying and being forced to lie to get by; about passing as an American and as a contributing citizen; about families, keeping them together, and having to make new ones when you can’t. This book is about what it means to not have a home.”

This is from the back cover of the book, and is written by Vargas himself.

Please join us on December 1 at noon via zoom to discuss this timely book about a topic that we cannot ignore.

The Brown Bag Books group meets year-round, except in July and August. Many attendees bring their lunches, and everyone brings a sense of humor. Monthly sessions are always lively and enjoyable.

Books chosen by the group for discussion are usually listed in the Order of Service and the Bulletin, as well as on the UUCPA website.
