Do You Support Campaign Donation Limits in Palo Alto?

As a California Clean Money Campaign volunteer, long-time UUCPA member Nancy Neff is working with the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Palo Alto on proposed campaign finance reforms for Palo Alto City Council races.  LWV volunteers have talked with Council members but there has been no action yet.  One Council member recently made a motion for a $500 cap on donations to City Council candidates, but it did not get a second.  As a result, the League of Women Voters of Palo Alto (LWV-PA) is gathering signatures on a petition to “Say Yes to $500 Cap on Campaign Donations for Palo Alto City Council Races.”Without this cap, donors can give up to the statewide limit of $4900. This creates a concern about possible undue influence by wealthy interests; and pushes the cost of campaigns ever higher, discouraging ordinary citizens with good ideas from running for Council.

If you live in Palo Alto and would like to support the idea of a cap on campaign donations for City Council elections,  click HERE to read more about the petition and — if you are in support, please sign the petition by May 13.
