BODHI TREE CONCERTS NORTH – The Living Composers Series – The Music of Mark Carlson

Date: Saturday, April 27
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Main Hall
Facilitator: Bruce Olstad, UUCPA Music Director (music-director@uucpa.org)

  • Have you ever wondered why classical music, written by long-dead composers from a bygone age, is relevant to you today?
  • Have you ever attended a “new music” concert, only to wish you had stuck with the long-dead composers, instead?
  • Have you asked yourself whether there is still a place for melody and beauty in contemporary classical music?
  • Have you ever wanted to know more about the process of musical composition, only to be frustrated that you couldn’t pick up a phone and ask Beethoven or Brahms how they did what they did?

Well, have we got the concert for you!

Join us on a wonderful journey into the world of a living composer, Mark Carlson, whose music has been described as lyrical, emotionally powerful, and stylistically unique. We will present a variety of works from Mark’s long and illustrious career, including chamber works, a song cycle, and even an aria from his new opera, The Scarlet Letter – all performed by some of the best musicians to be found anywhere. Mark will speak about these pieces, about the process of composing them, and will also answer your questions.

Tickets are $27.  Purchase tickets in advance ($28.94 w/service fee) here: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3617266

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS CONCERT WILL BENEFIT THE CAMP FIRE DISASTER RELIEF FUND OF THE UU FELLOWSHIP OF CHICO
