 zes the practice of medical aid in dying\, went into effect on June 9\, 20
 16. It specifies that mentally capable adults who have six months or less 
 to live can request a doctor’s prescription for medication that they cou
 ld decide to take in their final days or weeks\, in order to end unbearabl
 e suffering and to die peacefully.\n\nDr. Susan Hughmanick is an obstetric
 ian-gynecologist who practices in Aptos. Because she values the availabili
 ty of this choice for patients\, Dr. Hughmanick volunteers her time explai
 ning the provisions of the End of Life Option Act to community groups.\n\n
