The California End of Life Option act specifies that mentally capable adults who have six months or less to live can request a doctor’s prescription for medication that they could decide to take in their final days or weeks, in order to end unbearable suffering and to die peacefully. During this ARE Class, obstetrician/gynecologist Susan Hughmanick, MD will explain the provisions of this law and the circumstances under which it may be utilized. Because she values the availability of this choice for patients, she volunteers her time to give presentations to community groups in association with the non-profit organization Compassion and Choices.
