Julie Lythcott-Haims, brings her recollections of growing up a biracial black woman in America through her book, Real American: A Memoir. In her presentation, she will discuss her personal battle with low self-esteem that American racism inflicts on people of color. As the only child of a marriage between an African-American father and a white British mother she explores the impact of racism on a person’s inner life, and also outlines her path to self- acceptance and the healing power of community. She has made countless presentations to students, educators, and community leaders on her journey, as she calls on all of us to live more compassionately and fully. There will be time for questions – and copies of her book will be available.
