 : Not required\n\nJulie Lythcott-Haims\, brings her recollections of growi
 ng up a biracial black woman in America through her book\, Real American: 
 A Memoir. In her presentation\, she will discuss her personal battle with 
 low self-esteem that American racism inflicts on people of color. As the o
 nly child of a marriage between an African-American father and a white Bri
 tish mother she explores the impact of racism on a person's inner life\, a
 nd also outlines her path to self- acceptance and the healing power of com
 munity. She has made countless presentations to students\, educators\, and
  community leaders on her journey\, as she calls on all of us to live more
  compassionately and fully. There will be time for questions – and copie
 s of her book will be available.\n\nJulie Lythcott-Haims is the New York T
 imes bestselling author of How to Raise an Adult\, an anti-helicopter pare
 nting manifesto which gave rise to one of the top TED Talks of 2016\, and 
 now has over 4 million views. In addition to publishing two non-fiction bo
 oks\, her work has appeared on media including in the New York Times\, the
  Times Literary Supplement of London\, the Chicago Tribune\, The Atlantic\
 , Parents\, As Us\, the PBS News Hour\, CBS This Morning\, Good Morning Am
 erica\, The Today Show\, National Public Radio and its affiliates\, C-SPAN
 \, the TD Jakes Show\, and numerous podcasts and radio shows. She serves o
 n the Boards of Foundation for a College Education in East Palo Alto\; Glo
 bal Citizen Year\, in Oakland California\; Common Sense Media in San Franc
 isco. She is a member of the Peninsula chapter of Threshold Choir and volu
 nteers with the hospital program\, No one Dies Alone. She is a former corp
 orate lawyer and Stanford dean\, and she holds a BA from Stanford\, a JD f
 rom Harvard\, and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. S
 he lives in Palo Alto with her partner of over thirty years\, their two te
 enagers\, and her mother\, Jean.
