Healing the Divide

Healing the Divide is a UUCPA group that formed after the 2016 election to ask: 1) what do we not understand about others with more conservative viewpoints, and 2) what can we learn that will help us communicate even across wide differences in belief.

Our topic for September through November is the book by Valarie Kaur entitled See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love.  The book has three major sections:

Part 1: See No Stranger: Loving Others  (September)
Part 2: Tend the Wound: Loving Opponents  (October)
Part 3: Breathe and Push: Loving Ourselves  (November)

The “love” that Kaur advocates is not romantic love or selfless Christian love (Kaur is a Sikh, and is not a pacifist).  Instead, she speaks of revolutionary love – the choice to enter into wonder and labor for others, for our opponents, and for ourselves.

Part 3 uses the metaphor of labor as a basis for developing the ability to care for oneself.  Does that sound intriguing?  Join us to see how she develops her  theme.

If you missed the first two meetings on this book, you are still welcome to attend  the November meeting.  You might want to get an introduction to her approach by watching her TED talk:
