SUMMARY:Mindful Self-Compassion
DESCRIPTION:Mindful Self-Compassion  Self-compassion is being kind to yours
 elf as you would be to your closest friends or loved ones\, especially wh
 en you're stressed or upset. For most of us\, it doesn’t come as easily 
 as we might expect. Being hard on ourselves may seem necessary to succeed
  in life\, but the research suggests just the opposite: self-compassion i
 s a productive and healthier way to relate to ourselves than harsh self-c
 riticism. Self-compassion has been linked to many benefits\, including ha
 ppiness\, optimism\, creativity\, and satisfying relationships\, while ex
 periencing less anxiety and depression. With practice\, we can learn to re
 late to ourselves with more kindness\, caring\, and understanding. In thi
 s talk\, we’ll explore the science of self-compassion and learn more abo
 ut it first-hand through guided meditations and reflective writing exercis
 es. Please join us!\n\nDr. Horowitz is a primary care internist and a lon
 gtime meditator. He attended Stanford Medical School and worked in the Pr
 imary Care Division of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for many years. 
 He teaches Mindful Self-Compassion at El Camino Hospital and has develope
 d a self-compassion training program for physician well-being at the Stanf
 ord Prevention Research Center within the Stanford School of Medicine.\n\
