SUMMARY:Resonant Reading (Saturday)-Self as a process-Olendzki
DESCRIPTION:Resonant Reading (Saturday)-Self as a process-Olendzki An expl
oration of ideas\, feelings\, and our life experiences\, using a different
short reading as our springboard each time. The sessions are on Saturdays
\, 4-5. All are wide open and you are welcome to come weekly or once in a
 while.\nThe reading for this session: Saturday\, August 1\, 2026\n\n\n\nOf
all the nouns we use to disguise the hollowness of the human condition\,
none is more influential than “myself.” It consists of a collage of st
 ill images—name\, gender\, nationality\, profession\, enthusiasms\, rela
tionships—which are renovated from time to time\, but otherwise are each
a relic from one particular experience or another. The defining teaching
of the Buddhist tradition\, that of non-self\, is merely pointing out the
limitations of this reflexive view we hold of ourselves. It’s not that t
he self does not exist\, but that it is as cobbled together and transient
as everything else. … Self is a process. Self is a verb.\n--Andrew Olend
zki (2010)\, Unlimiting Mind\, p. 131.\n\n\nThe participants over the year
s have found that the approach we take\, and the respectful\, affectionate
community of inquirers in which we read and converse\, are as important a
s the reading itself. While many small groups begin with a check-in\, with
a session only an hour long\, Resonant Reading jumps right in to the conv
ersation. Those who are frequently in the group get to know each other ver
y well this way\, and those who are new will soon find they are among frie
nds.\n\n\n\nFacilitators use a light hand\, posting the reading in the cha
t and calling on whoever's Zoom hand is up. Suggestions for readings* come
from group members\, who also take turns facilitating\, if they want to t
ry that role.\n\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\nHow to join:\n\n Join this class from you

n&nbsp\;\n\n*This activity was formerly called "Sacred Text Reading." That
proved misleading--for one thing\, more often than not our sources are se
cular--but it's worth describing the qualities of a sacred text\, which we
still look for in the readings we choose. It is any reading that helps us
to:\n\n connect to something of supreme importance to us\n feel more co
nnected to other beings or to the universe\n feel more intensely alive\n
align our lives with our values\,\n perceive or feel more deeply\n be m
 ore fully and authentically ourselves.\n
