The sessions are on Satur days\, 4-5\, and on Wednesdays\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welco me to come twice a week or once in a while.\n\nThe participants over the y ears have found that the approach we take\, and the respectful\, affection ate community of inquirers in which we read and converse\, are as importan t as the reading itself. While many small groups begin with a check-in\, w ith a session only an hour long\, Resonant Reading jumps right in to the c onversation. Those who are frequently in the group get to know each other very well this way\, and those who are new will soon find they are among f riends.\n\n\n\nFacilitators use a light hand\, posting the reading in the chat and calling on whoever's Zoom hand is up. Suggestions for readings* c ome from group members\, who also take turns facilitating\, if they want t o try that role.\n\nThe reading for this session:\nThis Saturday (8/16 at 4PM)\n\nThe text is Leonardo Da Vinci's incomplete painting: The adoration of the Magi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adoration_of_the_Magi_(Leonard o)#/media/File:Adoration_of_the_Magi_(Leonardo).jpg\n\n\n\n\nThe main line s form a triangle backed by an arc. The right side of the triangle is a re latively straight line from the kneeling King’s foot to St Joseph\, and is echoed in the background by the line of the staircases. The left side r ises in a series of curves\, which are repeated in the arcades of the ruin \, and supported by the leading gestures and glances. Round this triangle\ , an arc of shadowy figures flows like the Stream of Ocean of Ptolemaic ge ography. To stabilize this restless pattern Leonardo has placed four verti cals\, the two trees near the centre of the triangle\, the two upright fig ures at its bases.\n\nEven this bare\, geometrical analysis of the composi tion gives a hint of its dramatic meaning. The symbolical homage of wisdom and science to a new faith is firmly expressed by the main figures\; but pressing round them\, like ghosts from the magical paganism of Apuleius [a uthor of the magical Roman novel The Golden Ass]\, are those evasive creat ures which writers on Leonardo are content to call angels. In the backgrou nd\, agitation of spirit inhabits the half-ruined construction of intellig ence. There remain the two figures at the sides\, which seem to stand outs ide the scene\, like leaders of a Greek chorus. To the left is the philoso pher\, whose noble form we saw in evolution. Morally and materially he has the grandeur of [an] apostle. Opposite [him is the] deeply romantic figur e of a youth in armour on the right.\n\nHe looks out of the picture with c omplete indifference\, and as is usual with such detached figures a tradit ion has grown up that Leonardo has here portrayed himself.
