SUMMARY:Resonant Reading (Saturday)-The Lessons of Loss-Schulz
DESCRIPTION:Resonant Reading (Saturday)-The Lessons of Loss-Schulz An expl
oration of ideas\, feelings\, and our life experiences\, using a different
short reading as our springboard each time. The sessions are on Saturdays
\, 4-5\, and on Wednesdays\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome t
o come twice a week or once in a while.\n\nThe participants over the years
have found that the approach we take\, and the respectful\, affectionate
community of inquirers in which we read and converse\, are as important as
the reading itself. While many small groups begin with a check-in\, with
a session only an hour long\, Resonant Reading jumps right in to the conve
rsation. Those who are frequently in the group get to know each other very
well this way\, and those who are new will soon find they are among frien
ds.\n\n\n\nFacilitators use a light hand\, posting the reading in the chat
and calling on whoever's Zoom hand is up. Suggestions for readings* come
from group members\, who also take turns facilitating\, if they want to tr
y that role.\n\nThe reading for this session: Saturday\, January 3\nLoss\,
which seems only to take away\, adds its own kind of necessary contributi
on. No matter what goes missing\, the object you need or the person you lo
ve\, the lessons are always the same. Disappearance reminds us to notice\,
transience to cherish\, fragility to defend. Loss is a kind of external c
onscience\, urging us to make better use of our finite days. Our crossing
is a brief one\, best spent bearing witness to all that we see: honoring w
hat we find noble\, tending what we know needs our care\, recognizing that
we are inseparably connected to all of it\, including what is not yet upo
n us\, including what is already gone. We are here to keep watch\, not to
 keep.\n--Kathryn Schulz\, Lost &amp\; Found (2022)\, p. 236\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n

formerly called "Sacred Text Reading." That proved misleading--for one th
ing\, more often than not our sources are secular--but it's worth describi
ng the qualities of a sacred text\, which we still look for in the reading
s we choose. It is any reading that helps us to:\n\n connect to something
of supreme importance to us\n feel more connected to other beings or to
the universe\n feel more intensely alive\n align our lives with our valu
es\,\n perceive or feel more deeply\n be more fully and authentically ou
 rselves.\n
