SUMMARY:Resonant Reading (Wednesday)-Compost by Dan Chelotti
DESCRIPTION:Resonant Reading (Wednesday)-Compost by Dan Chelotti An explor
 ation of ideas\, feelings\, and our life experiences\, using a different s
hort reading as our springboard each time. The sessions are on Saturdays\,
4-5\, and on Wednesdays\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome to
come twice a week or once in a while.\n\nThe participants over the years h
ave found that the approach we take\, and the respectful\, affectionate co
mmunity of inquirers in which we read and converse\, are as important as t
he reading itself. While many small groups begin with a check-in\, with a
session only an hour long\, Resonant Reading jumps right in to the convers
ation. Those who are frequently in the group get to know each other very w
ell this way\, and those who are new will soon find they are among friends
.\n\n\n\nFacilitators use a light hand\, posting the reading in the chat a
nd calling on whoever's Zoom hand is up. Suggestions for readings* come fr
om group members\, who also take turns facilitating\, if they want to try
that role.\n\nThe reading for this session: Wednesday\, November 19th\nTh
ere is magic in decay.\nA dance to be done\nFor the rotting\, the maggot s
trewn\nPiles of flesh which pile\nUpon the dung-ridden earth\nAnd the damp
that gathers\nAnd rusts and defiles.\nThere is a bit of this\nIn even the
most zoetic soul —\nThe dancing child’s arms\nFlailing to an old sk
 a song\nConduct the day-old flies\nAway to whatever rank\nNative is closes
 t. Just today\nI was walking along the river\nWith my daughter in my backp
 ack\nAnd I opened my email\nOn my phone and Duffie\nHad sent me a poem\nCa
lled “Compost.” I read it\nTo my little girl and started\nTo explain b
 efore I was three\nWords in Selma started\nYelling\, Daddy\, Daddy\, snake
!\nIn the path was a snake\,\nBelly up and still nerve-twitching\nThe ghos
 t of some passing\nBicycle or horse. Pretty\, Selma said.\nYes\, I said. A
nd underneath my yes\nAnother yes\, the yes to my body\,\nJust beginning t
 o show signs\nOf slack\, and another\, my grasping\nIn the dark for affirm
ing flesh\nThat in turn says yes\, yes\nLet’s rot together but not until
\nWe’ve drained what sap\nIs left in these trees.\nAnd I wake in the mor
 ning\nAnd think of the coroner\nCalling to ask what color\nMy father’s e
 yes were\,\nAnd I asked\, Why? Why can’t\nYou just look — and the
 coroner\,\nMatter-of-factly says\, Decay.\nDo you want some eggs\, my love
 ?\nI have a new way of preparing them.\nAnd look\, look outside\, I think
this weather\nHas the chance of holding.—Compost by Dan Chelotti\nSource

g." That proved misleading--for one thing\, more often than not our source
 s are secular--but it's worth describing the qualities of a sacred text\,
which we still look for in the readings we choose. It is any reading that
helps us to:\n\n connect to something of supreme importance to us\n feel
more connected to other beings or to the universe\n feel more intensely
alive\n align our lives with our values\,\n perceive or feel more deeply
\n be more fully and authentically ourselves.\n
