Join the democratic and participatory American song tradition of Sacred Harp singing. NPR calls it “full-body singing,” Rolling Stone describes the sound as a “soaring magnificence,” and KALW says it’s a powerful “communal experience.” Come to join about 50 other singers, ranging from rank beginners to professional musicians, as we spend the day singing in four-part harmony from The Sacred Harp, a tune book that traces its publishing history to before the Civil War.

Beginners are always welcome, and we’ll loan you a copy of The Sacred Harp. Come for an hour, or spend the whole day. Since great food is part of the Sacred Harp singing tradition, be sure to plan your day so that you join us from 12-1 pm for “dinner-on-the-grounds,” a potluck lunch with stick-to-the-ribs food and yummy desserts.
