SUMMARY:Sacred Text Reading Group (Quran\, 5th Surah)
DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (Quran\, 5th Surah)  \n\n\nA twice-we
 ekly online sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on
  Wednesdays\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spir
 itual-practice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brie
 f scriptural text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (lear
 ning something about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discover
 ing what the texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know ea
 ch other better). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divi
 na.\n\nThe facilitator will have a version of the text available to share\
 ; “bring” your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggesti
 ons of future texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they 
 want to try that role.\n\n\nOur text for Saturday\, November 27\, 2021\, i
 s from the 5th surah or chapter of the Quran. The Quran has 114 surahs or 
 chapters. The 5th surah is traditionally called “The Table Spread” (al
 -Māʾidah) after one of its stories\, wherein God sends a miraculous tabl
 e spread of food. The 5th surah is believed to be one of Muhammad’s last
  revelations. It contains prescriptions on pilgrimage\, dietary law\, etc.
  as well as on dealings with Jews and Christians. As one of Muhammad’s l
 ast revelations\, it’s influential in Islamic thought.\n\nVerse 48: For 
 each among you We have appointed a law and a way.\nAnd had God willed\, He
  would have made you one community\, but [He willed otherwise]\, that He m
 ight try you in that which He has given you. So vie with one another [e.g.
  the Jews and Christians] in good deeds. Unto God shall be your return all
  together\, and He will inform you of that wherein you differ.\nVerse 82: 
 Among [the Christians] are priests and monks [and people who] are not arro
 gant.\nVerse 83: And when they hear that which was sent down unto the Mess
 enger\, thou seest their eyes overflow with tears because of the truth the
 y recognize. They say\, “Our Lord\, we believe\, so inscribe us among th
 e witnesses.\n\nTo have check-in time\, or if you are new and would like a
  brief orientation\, arrive ten minutes early. And all are welcome to stay
