DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (Van Gogh)  \n\n\nA twice-weekly onli
 ne sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on Wednesda
 ys\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spiritual-pra
 ctice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brief scriptu
 ral text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learning some
 thing about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discovering what 
 the texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know each other 
 better). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divina.\n\nTh
 e facilitator will have a version of the text available to share\; “brin
 g” your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggestions of fu
 ture texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they want to t
 ry that role.\n\n\nOur text for Saturday\, December 11\, 2021\, is from a 
 letter from Vincent van Gogh to his brother Theo van Gogh. Vincent was 28 
 at the time and still seeking his purpose in life. In this letter\, Vincen
 t explains he chose not to pursue a conventional career because he felt a 
 higher calling\, but isn’t sure what that calling is.\n\nWhat preys on m
 y mind is simply this one question: what am I good for\, could I not be of
  service or use in some way\, how can I become more knowledgeable and stud
 y some subject or other in depth?\nBut I cannot help thinking that the bes
 t way of knowing God is to love many things. Love this friend\, this perso
 n\, this thing\, whatever you like\, and you will be on the right road to 
 understanding Him better\, that is what I keep telling myself. But you mus
 t love with a sublime\, genuine\, profound sympathy\, with devotion\, with
  intelligence\, and you must try all the time to understand Him more\, bet
 ter and yet more. That will lead to God\; that will lead to an unshakeable
