SUMMARY:Sacred Text Reading Group (Emerson)
DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (Emerson)  \n\n\nA twice-weekly onlin
 e sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on Wednesday
 s\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spiritual-prac
 tice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brief scriptur
 al text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learning somet
 hing about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discovering what t
 he texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know each other b
 etter). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divina.\n\nThe
  facilitator will have a version of the text available to share\; “bring
 ” your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggestions of fut
 ure texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they want to tr
 y that role.\n\n\nOur first text of the new year is from Ralph Waldo Emers
 on's essay "Experience":\nThe years teach much which the days never know. 
 The persons who compose our company\, converse\, and come and go\, and des
 ign and execute many things\, and somewhat comes of it all\, but an unlook
 ed for result…\n\nIt takes a good deal of time to eat or to sleep\, or t
 o earn a hundred dollars\, and a very little time to entertain a hope and 
 an insight which becomes the light of our life. We dress our garden\, eat 
 our dinners\, discuss the household with our wives\, and these things make
  no impression\, are forgotten next week\; but in the solitude to which ev
 ery man is always returning\, he has a sanity and revelations\, which in h
 is passage into new worlds he will carry with him. Never mind the ridicule
 \, never mind the defeat: up again\, old heart! — it seems to say\, — 
 there is victory yet for all justice\; and the true romance which the worl
 d exists to realize\, will be the transformation of genius into practical 
 power.\nTo have check-in time\, or if you are new and would like a brief o
 rientation\, arrive ten minutes early. And all are welcome to stay ten min
