SUMMARY:Sacred Text Reading Group (Saturday)
DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (Saturday)  \n\n\nA twice-weekly onli
 ne sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on Wednesda
 ys\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spiritual-pra
 ctice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brief scriptu
 ral text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learning some
 thing about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discovering what 
 the texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know each other 
 better). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divina.\n\nTh
 e facilitator will have a version of the text available to share\; “brin
 g” your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggestions of fu
 ture texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they want to t
 ry that role.\n\n\nOur text for Saturday\, January 29 is from Michel de Mo
 ntaigne by way of Stephen Batchelor's book\, The Art of Solitude.\nIn ridd
 ing ourselves of the courthouse and marketplace we do not rid ourselves of
  the principal worries of our life. Ambition\, covetousness\, indecisivene
 ss\, fear\, and desires hardly abandon us just because we change address. 
 They pursue us into the monasteries and schools of philosophy themselves. 
 Neither deserts nor caves nor hair shirts nor penance can extricate us fro
 m them.\n\nTo have check-in time\, or if you are new and would like a brie
 f orientation\, arrive ten minutes early. And all are welcome to stay ten
