DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (Saturday)  \n\n\nA twice-weekly onli
 ne sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on Wednesda
 ys\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spiritual-pra
 ctice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brief scriptu
 ral text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learning some
 thing about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discovering what 
 the texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know each other 
 better). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divina.\n\nTh
 e facilitator will have a version of the text available to share\; “brin
 g” your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggestions of fu
 ture texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they want to t
 ry that role.\n\n\nOur text for Saturday\, May 14\, 2022\, is the second c
 hapter of the Biblical book of Habakkuk. Very little is known about this "
 minor prophet" (one of the twelve called this because their writings are s
 hort) except that he probably lived in the 7th century BCE. You can read m
 ore about the context and see other translations here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1 I 
 will stand at my watchpost\n    and station myself on the rampart\;\nI
  will keep watch to see what he will say to me\n    and what he will a
 nswer concerning my complaint.\n2 Then the Lord answered me and said:\nWr
 ite the vision\;\n    make it plain on tablets\,\n    so that a ru
 nner may read it.\n3 For there is still a vision for the appointed time\;
 \n    it speaks of the end and does not lie.\nIf it seems to tarry\, w
 ait for it\;\n    it will surely come\; it will not delay.\n4 Look at
  the proud!\n    Their spirit is not right in them\,\n    but the 
 righteous live by their faithfulness.\n5 Moreover\, wealth is treacherous
 \;\n    the arrogant do not endure.\nThey open their throats wide as S
 heol\;\n    like Death they never have enough.\nThey gather all nation
 s for themselves\n    and collect all peoples as their own.\n6 Shall n
 ot everyone taunt such people and\, with mocking riddles\, say about them\
 ,\n\n“Alas for you who heap up what is not your own!”\n    How lon
 g will you load yourselves with goods taken in pledge?\n7 Will not your o
 wn creditors suddenly rise\n    and those who make you tremble wake up
 ?\n    Then you will be plunder for them.\n8 Because you have plunder
 ed many nations\,\n    all who survive of the peoples shall plunder yo
 u—\nbecause of human bloodshed and violence to the earth\,\n    to c
 ities and all who live in them.\n9 “Alas for you who get evil gain for 
 your house\,\n    setting your nest on high\n    to be safe from t
 he reach of harm!”\n10 You have devised shame for your house\n    b
 y cutting off many peoples\;\n    you have forfeited your life.\n11 T
 he very stones will cry out from the wall\,\n    and the rafter will r
 espond from the woodwork.\n12 “Alas for you who build a town by bloodsh
 ed\n    and found a city on iniquity!”\n13 Is it not from the Lord 
 of hosts\n    that peoples labor only to feed the flames\n    and 
 nations weary themselves for nothing?\n14 But the earth will be filled\n
     with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord\,\n    as the wate
 rs cover the sea.\n15 “Alas for you who make your neighbors drink\,\n 
    pouring out your wrath until they are drunk\,\n    in order to g
 aze on their nakedness!”\n16 You will be sated with contempt instead of
  glory.\n    Drink\, you yourself\, and stagger!\nThe cup in the Lord
 ’s right hand\n    will come around to you\,\n    and shame will
  come upon your glory!\n17 For the violence done to Lebanon will overwhel
 m you\;\n    the destruction of the animals will terrify you—\nbecau
 se of human bloodshed and violence to the earth\,\n    to cities and a
 ll who live in them.\n18 What use is an idol\n    once its maker has 
 shaped it—\n    a cast image\, a teacher of lies?\nFor its maker tru
 sts in what has been made\,\n    though the product is only an idol th
 at cannot speak!\n19 Alas for you who say to the wood\, “Wake up!”\n
     to silent stone\, “Rouse yourself!”\n    Can it teach?\nSe
 e\, it is gold and silver plated\,\n    and there is no breath in it a
 t all.\n\n\n20 But the Lord is in his holy temple\;\n    let all the 
 earth keep silence before him!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo have check-in time\, or if
