DESCRIPTION:Sacred Text Reading Group (John W. Gardner)  \n\n\nA twice-week
 ly online sacred text reading group. We meet on Saturdays\, 4-5\, and on W
 ednesdays\, 12-1. All are wide open and you are welcome!\n\nUsing a spirit
 ual-practice approach\, in each session we will explore a different brief 
 scriptural text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learni
 ng something about the texts and traditions)\, spiritual/moral (discoverin
 g what the texts ask of us)\, and community-building (getting to know each
  other better). Our practice usually follows this version of Lectio Divina
 .\n\nAmy will have a version of the text available to share\; “bring” 
 your own if you like. All are welcome\, as are your suggestions of future 
 texts. Group members also take turns facilitating\, if they want to try th
 at role.\n\nOur text for Wednesday\, December 8\, 2021 is from an address 
 delivered to McKinsey &amp\; Company\, Phoenix\, AZ\, in 1990\, by John W.
  Gardner. Gardner was\, among other things\, a (Republican) member of Pres
 ident Lyndon Johnson's cabinet\, founder of Common Cause\, and author of s
 everal books on leadership and other topics\, including Self-Renewal.\n\n\
 n\nMeaning is not something you stumble across\, like the answer to a ridd
 le or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into yo
 ur life. You build it out of your own past\, out of your affections and lo
 yalties\, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you\, o
 ut of your own talent and understanding\, out of the things you believe in
 \, out of the things and people you love\, out of the values for which you
  are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are th
 e only one who can put them together into that unique pattern that will be
  your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it d
