Watch TRON (1982, dir. Steven Lisberger) and then join the conversation on June 16!
Nowadays, every movie-award season brings a heap of praise for animated movies that are wholly or partly CGI, from Spirited Away to Happy Feet to Up. But in 1982, Steven Lisberger wryly said of his movie TRON, CGI was considered “cheating.” The movie, which combines live action and CGI, brings a power struggle at a video game company into the inner world, literally, of the computers themselves, with each of the human major characters mirrored by a digital counterpart.
TRON is available on DVD and Blu-Ray from the Palo Alto City Library, and for rent from Amazon Prime.
