Contra dance is a form of community dance enjoyed worldwide. Here’s a clip of a teen contra dance from pre-pandemic days: link

Date: Sunday, April 18, 7 to 8 pm

The link was sent via email to announce@uucpa.org and creparents@uucpa.org.  If you didn’t get the email, please email uucpa@uucpa.org to request the link.

From Sarah Kostka, SHYG president:
I’ve been asked to provide some more info on how this event will be conducted, and that sounded like a good idea, so here goes:
1. Claire [Takemori, long-time contra dance caller] will teach us the moves of a particular contra dance. Some of the contra dances on Zoom have been more line-dance oriented so that they are natural to do without another person. We will substitute any two-person moves with other ones / Zoom replacements of those moves. Examples include do-si-do-ing with an invisible/nonexistent person or promenading by yourself.
2. She will start playing some traditional contra dance music and maybe some techno music.
3. She’ll tell us what to do as we go, and possibly dance herself.
4. The process will repeat for each dance!
I’d also like to open up participation to siblings and parents. The more the merrier!
Thanks,
Sarah Kostka
