The UUA recently announced a national partnership with Reclaim Our Vote (ROV), one of UUCPA’s UU the Vote Partner organizations. A number of you have already written postcards or made phone calls with ROV to people of color in various states, encouraging them to register to vote, to request a mail-in ballot, or to go to the polls. Now there is a new opportunity for you to engage with Reclaim Our Vote as part of next week’s General Assembly, even if you are not registered to attend GA itself.
Early voting in the Texas primary begins immediately after GA. If you saw what happened in Wisconsin or in Georgia, you know how little states like Texas are doing to inform and protect voters right now. Between Wednesday, June 24 and Sunday, June 28, UU’s will be making phone calls to people of color in Texas to help ensure they are ready and able to vote in the July Texas primary, as well as the November Presidential election.
During General Assembly:
Phone banking will be active from 11am – 9pm eastern every day.
Anyone can log-in and make calls at uuthevote.org/phone-banking .
In addition, there will be three faith-wide phone banks with training and on-going support (click to register).
You can also join a special training session next Tuesday, June 23 at 5:00 pm PT during the weekly UU the Vote Office Hours. To sign up for next Tuesday’s training session, go to UUtheVote June 23 Office Hours.
Please join one of these GA sessions to see what it’s like and find how intuitive it is. If you would prefer a UUCPA-only session, one can be arranged for Sunday, June 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. If you sign up for one of these UUA sessions or would prefer a UUCPA-only session on June 28, please let us know by sending an email to FairElections@uucpa.org.
Hesitant to make phone calls? This audience is very rarely called and feels honored to be worthy of getting your call. In the ongoing struggle to ensure that Black Lives Matter, this is a contribution you can make to helping ensure the voices of color in Texas are heard in this year’s elections!
Nancy Neff, who has made many calls for the Clean Money Campaign, says the following about her experience making calls for Reclaim our Vote:
“I made calls for the Georgia primary with Reclaim Our Vote and found phone banking with them especially easy — excellent for beginners and introverts! I was mainly leaving voicemail messages, but the conversations I did have with people were pleasant and I was frequently thanked for calling.”
We at UUCPA who support the UU The Vote effort hope you will consider joining this effort to support people of color in Texas! Many thanks!
