Membership Engagement Update – July, 2019

In my last update, I told you how the Membership & Growth Committee and I have been removing barriers that discourage visitors from returning or keep newcomers from engaging more deeply. You may have seen some of our work in the new banner out on the street that says, “Diverse People, Diverse Beliefs, One Community” and in the green “Services This Way” signs around the campus on Sundays. Some of our work happens in the background, such as sending welcoming emails to new visitors and those returning from an extended absence. We’ve also increased the frequency of Newcomer Lunches and Discovering UUCPA classes, and are now planning the July 28 All Church Picnic (Save the Date: July 28!).

You, too, have a role to play in welcoming newcomers. Wearing your name tag and introducing yourself to those you don’t recognize are two ways to help each new arrival find their place here in the UUCPA community. While we’re on our summer schedule, name tags are also helpful in getting to know those who usually attend an earlier or later service than you.

As the summer progresses, we’ll be planning our next set of membership engagement priorities, and I’d love to hear your ideas! Stop by the Welcome Table any Sunday before or after Services or email me at bjw at uucpa.org to set up a time to talk.
