Our Whole Lives

This winter, UUCPA will offer the class Our Whole Lives (OWL) Sexuality Education for two age groups: Grades 4-6 (ages 8 – 11) and Grades 7-9 (ages 12 – 15).

The OWL 4-6 program will be offered on Sunday mornings at
11 am, following the Children’s Religious Education (CRE) calendar. This allows families the option of attending the CRE program and the OWL program each week. The OWL 7-9 program has the richest curriculum and will be offered on Sunday evenings from January through May.

These courses are part of a lifespan sexuality education program developed for use by Unitarian Universalists and others, which has received acclaim from both parents and participants alike. The OWL program is a values-based sexuality education program that embodies UU values, including the dignity of the individual, the importance of personal responsibility, and the essential interdependence of all people. Other OWL curriculum has been developed for youth in grades 10-12 and adults.

The UUCPA OWL Committee offers OWL courses for varying age groups, in order to for use by Unitarian provide the most opportunity for our congregation’s youth. Parents who are interested in having their child(ren) participate in OWL 4-6 in Winter 2018, should attend the Parent Meeting on Sunday September 24 from 11 – 12:30 pm in Room 4/5. Rev. Dan Harper and OWL Coordinator Maribea Berry will describe the program and answer questions. Advance registration and signed parental consent forms will be collected, and we will also take orders for It’s Perfectly Normal which is required reading integrated into the curriculum.

Parents who are interested in having their child(ren) participate in OWL 7-9 should attend the Parent Meeting on Sunday December 3 from 6:30 – 8pm in the Fireside Room.

These programs are typically not offered every year, so if you have a child in these age ranges, please attend the Parent Meeting to learn more about the program and pick up the registration forms. If you cannot attend, please contact Maribea Berry by phone or e-mail to have the registration and consent forms sent to you via mail, fax or e-mail. And please share this invitation with other families that you think could benefit from this exceptional program – we do not require that attendees be UUs.
