The Palo Alto City Council met on Monday, August 9, and within a few minutes of the start of the meeting the topic of our UUCPA Safe Parking permit was removed from the consent agenda. The item was removed due to the need for further discussion regarding the appeal filed by Stevenson house requesting that Move Mountain View (who will manage the program) do criminal background checks on potential participants prior to accepting them. Although our permit application was removed from the agenda, the public was allowed to comment during the meeting. We would like to thank the seven members of UUCPA who took the time to speak in favor of the program as currently envisioned, as well as all of you who contacted the City Council on our behalf.
Our permit application will be discussed and voted on at a future meeting of the Council, a date to be determined. The Safe Parking Committee and the Action Council will be holding a Q&A session about the program and its status on Sunday, August 22 immediately following the closing of breakout rooms. Details of how to join this session will be provided next week.
