When accused of “extremism,” Martin Luther King, Jr., reflected from his jail cell in Birmingham and “decided that perhaps [he] would like to think of [him]self as an extremist — in the light of the spirit which made Jesus an extremist for love.” If someone said you were an extremist for something, of what would you be proud to say, “Yes, I am an extremist for that”? In memory of King on what would have been his 94th birthday, we’ll claim and proclaim our inner radical.
The choir will sing U2’s “MLK” and Jim Stevens will get us singing. Amy will tell a story by James Thurber to the children and anyone else who wants to listen in. It’s a great day to bring a friend!
