Vaccination Status Town Halls – Dec 12 & 19

UUCPA’s mission is to transform ourselves, each other and the world. Much of this transformative work happens through connection, and many of us connect best when we are in-person, and (during the winter especially) indoors. Going indoors increases the risk of COVID-19 spread; one way to mitigate that risk is to ensure all attendees are vaccinated.

To determine the best course of action for UUCPA as we move to indoor worship services, we will hold two town hall meetings open to any and all interested people, to discuss our options.

Town Hall 1: Sunday, Dec. 12th

In-person, at 10:30 am (immediately following the 9:30 service) in the parking lot. Led by Brooke Bishara and Harry Wachob.

Town Hall 2: Sunday, Dec. 19th

On Zoom, at 12:30 pm (after break-out rooms close). Led by Rev. Amy and Barbara Smith-Thomas.

Here are the options as the Board and our Hybrid Services Task Force have envisioned them. The Hybrid Services Task Force expects to endorse one of these options shortly before the first Town Hall.

Option A: Worship Service Attendees Show Proof of Vaccination

  1. Require proof of vaccination of anyone wishing to attend an indoor service. Mechanism to be determined by Hybrid Services Task Force and staff.
    1. Possibility of vaccination sticker on name badge
    2. Will we eventually require boosters?
  2. Conditions under which waivers could be granted:
    1. Children under 5
    2. Medical conditions- folks could seek these with our ministers in a confidential way
    3. Those with a negative test within 72 hours
  3. Those without proof of vaccination or waiver, we invite to either join online, or sit in their car and listen on the radio, or sit on the patio. (We are still working on the viability of this option.)

Option B: Worship Service Attendees Attest to Their Vaccination Status

  1. Ask anyone wishing to attend an indoor service if they are vaccinated, but do not ask to see proof.
    1. People could answer “yes,” “no,” or “decline to answer.”
    2. Parents would attest for children and teens aged 18 and under.
  2. Conditions under which waivers could be granted:
    1. Children under 5
    2. Medical conditions- folks could seek these with our ministers in a confidential way
    3. Those with a negative test within 72 hours
  3. Those who answer “no” or “decline to answer,” we invite to either join online, or sit in their car and listen on the radio, or sit on the patio. (We are still working on the viability of this option.)

Option C: Status Quo

  1. Do not ask about vaccination. Rely on masking, distancing, and relatively high vaccination rate of the county to prevent spread.

Note: For any of the above options, we will continue to have people mask, distance, and sign in with contact information in case someone tests positive for COVID after attending a service.
