UUs for Social Justice Speaker, Zac Mueller: How did Authoritarianism Enter the Mainstream

Rev. Peter Farriday plans to attend and thought others from UUCPA might be interested in joining as well.
Next week, UUSJ will host Zachary Mueller, recognized expert on anti-immigrant politics and disinformation with attribution credits in local and national press, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and MSNBC.
Mueller will speak to UUSJ about the intersection of authoritarianism and anti-immigrant sentiment in a presentation entitled “How did Authoritarianism Enter the Mainstream? Understanding the potent and prevalent hate of immigrants.”
He is the former Senior Research Director at America’s Voice. He is a political strategist and expert in tracking strategic racism. His work focuses on understanding and countering far-right nativist and authoritarian movements.
Zachary will:
- Share with us what we all need to understand about how authoritarianism and hate of immigrants are operating to feed the assault on our republic and American democracy.
- Elucidate the socio-political tensions and tendencies at play.
- Showcase how anti-immigrant narratives have been a mainstay of the authoritarian impulse in America, over time.
- Articulate how such narratives are used to undermine democratic institutions and erode civil liberties.
- Shed light on how immigrant communities have been used as political scapegoats for decades, and highlight the ways this tactic proceeds today.
Register and attend Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET • 6:30 p.m. CT • 5:30 p.m. MT • 4:30 p.m. PT.
