We’re hiking in Garin Regional Park. After all the rains, the hills are a bright Irish green and I’m hoping for lots and lots of wildflowers. Bob Simoni, a fellow hiker and former member of UUFRC, will be leading this hike near his home in Hayward.
Our hike starts in a parking lot of California State University East Bay (CSUEB) where there’s free charging for electric cars. If you have an EV, you can charge it while we hike. On Google Maps, it’s indicated as “CSUEB Charging Station 1” on Old Hillary Road across from Student Services and Administration.  If you’re planning to charge your electric car during our hike in Garin Regional Park this Saturday, you’ll need a Chargepoint card to activate the charger.
We’ll hike from CSUEB through a path down into Garin Park with one stream crossing and take an unmarked trail to a hidden meadow where family of wild pigs has been spotted. We’ll take a lunch break on Bob and Sandy Simoni’s lovely deck where we might see a great horned owl that has been nesting in their neighbor’s eucalyptus tree. After lunch, we’ll return to CSUEB.  The hike is about 6 miles, 50% wooded and 50% exposed.
We’ll leave from UUFRC (2124 Brewster at Lowell) in Redwood City at 9am, Saturday, April 1. Arrive early to arrange carpools. The drive to CSUEB will take about 45 minutes.
Bring lunch and water.
