Hikers,
I hate to cancel this hike again but I caught a cold earlier this week and am not recovering as fast as I hoped that I would. I am so sorry but I don’t feel hearty enough to lead a longish hike this Saturday.

On Saturday, June 2, we’re hiking at La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve. The complete trail in a recently opened area of the park is nine miles long but I think we’ll turn back after about three miles. If anyone is feeling particularly energetic and eager to see the whole trail, we can decide at the turn-back point.

According to my map, we’ll climb about two hundred feet, descend another 200 to Harrington Creek, and then climb up 200 feet again. Same on the return trip. We will enjoy wide-open spaces, long views, late wild flowers, and the company of large but peaceful bovine.

We’ll leave from UUFRC (2124 Brewster at Lowell) in Redwood City at 9amSaturday, June 2. Arrive early to arrange carpools. If you want to meet us at the trailhead, the hike starts from Gate LH11 at the end of Sears Ranch Road.  We should arrive there between 9:45 and 10am. There is a toilet at the trail head but not beyond.

We’ll return to Redwood City by 2pm. Bring lunch and water.

A note about where some of your tax money is going: The work on this new trail was supported by Measure AA, a $300 million general obligation bond approved by voters in June 2014. The measure levies a property tax on those in the special district’s territory, which includes 17 cites in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties.
