Date(s) - 03/29/2020
10:30 am - 1:30 pm

While the Coronavirus keeps us physically apart, CYRE would like to bring our RE classes together using online meetings. Our regular RE teachers have agreed to hold online meetings for each class for the next three weeks (March 22, March 29, and April 5) as follows:

  • 10:30 AM: Green class, Ecojustice class
  • 11:30 AM: Red and Yellow classes combined,
  • 11:30 AM: Blue classes
  • 12:30 PM: Neighboring Faith Communities class
  • SHYG: to be determined by SHYG advisors, but probably 6:30 PM
The teachers for each class will email all registered families with links to the online meetings. If you have a child registered in any of the above classes, keep a lookout for an invitation on Thursday or Friday to an online meeting on Sunday.
Please note that these online meetings are only intended for our families who are already registered with UUCPA’s CYRE program. If you would like to invite a friend to one of these meetings, please ask them to email Dan Harper at by the Friday prior to the Sunday when they would like to join. Dan will get the information he needs, and he will let the teachers know to include the new families on the call.
We hope this service helps you and your family remain connected to UUCPA and to each other.

Because we believe in learning by doing, a most important part of our religious education is participation, with all ages, in the first part of regular worship services. Then during Sunday school, young people learn and play with people their own age. Feel free to ask Sunday school teachers what they did this week. If you would like to review curriculum materials that are not online, please call Dan Harper.

Each Sunday, from mid-August through early May, Sunday School classes are held.  For the first part of the year, all children participate in the classes mentioned below by age group. After late March and into early May, children in grades K-5 participate in multi-age group projects while children who are infant-preK and middle schoolers continue with the classes below.

  • Childcare (for infants, toddlers, and young children) — Loving and safe care with our professional childcare providers. Children who are over 3 and toilet-trained may go to Red class (if your 3-year-old is not yet toilet-trained, they may be in the class as long as you are on call via cell phone if toileting is necessary). • Red group (3 and 4-year-olds), 2019-2020 — The Chalice Children curriculum helps young children learn about their religious community, and get to know each other.
  • Yellow group (gr. K-1), 2019-2020 — In fall, the Around the Church, Around the Year curriculum introduces children to their congregation. In early winter, children learn more about feminist god-images with Hide and Seek with God. In late winter, children explore the wider religious world with more stories from Picture Book World Religions.
  • Green group (grades 2-3), 2019-2020 — This group begins with Spirit of Adventure to learn about Unitarian Universalist values through fun activities. In early winter, Timeless Themes presents stories about Jesus and his times. Then in late winter, Holidays and Holy Days introduces world religions through holidays.
  • Blue group (grade 4-5), 2019-2020 — In fall, this group will explore Unitarian Universalist values with the Toolbox of Faith curriculum. In early winter, Timeless Themes presents stories from the Hebrew Bible. In late winter, they explore creation myths from around the world with the Beginnings curriculum.
  • For middle school (gr. 6-8), there is a choice of two different classes:
    • Purple group: Ecojustice (grade 6-8) — This is a project-based program that includes projects relating to environmental justice and nature study. Projects may include urban/suburban gardening, creating habitat for non-human organisms, learning how to cook outdoors, and studying environmental justice heroes like Rachel Carson and Cesar Chavez. There will be different projects each year, and the class may be repeated.
    • Purple group: Neighboring Faith Communities (grades 6-8) — This middle school group visits other faith communities, exploring other UU congregations, Christian diversity, and non-Western religions. Participants go on 6 field trips each year, on a two-year cycle: 2019-2020, UU, Quaker, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, and Sikh faith communities; 2020-2021, UU, UCC, AME Zion, Catholic, Mormon, and Hindu faith communities.
