In September, 2020, many of you attended UUCPA’s Welcoming Congregation seminar “Transgender Experience and Spirituality.” The event featured selections from the online course series “Transgender Inclusion in Congregations,” developed by UU leaders Rev. Mykal O’Neal Slack and Zr. Alex Kapitan and the Transforming Hearts Collective.

The excerpts we viewed and discussed in the seminar were moving and inspiring, and many of us would like to take the entire six-session course.

The Welcoming Congregation Committee will offer a monthly group viewing/discussion over Zoom, meeting from 7–9 pm on the third Monday of each month, starting on November 16.

Over the six sessions, we’ll deeply explore the intersection of trans identity, spirituality, and faith community and gain the grounding, context, and skills to transform ourselves and our congregation.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Nov 16  Introduction to Beloved Community: Welcome as a Spiritual Practice
  • Dec 21  Dec 28 Gender and Our Faith Community
  • Jan 18   Unpacking the Gender Binary
  • Feb 15  Trans Experience and Spirituality
  • Mar 15 The Role of Culture in Trans Exclusion
  • Apr 19  Creating Culture Shift

You are welcome to join us for some or all of the sessions. Zoom information will be shared on the email list welcoming@uucpa.org. You can join that list by emailing welcoming+subscribe@uucpa.org.

More information on the course content is available here.

NOTE: UUCPA has purchased access to the “Transgender Inclusion in Congregations” course for our entire congregation. If you plan to join us for our monthly viewings and discussions, then you do not need to enroll in the course separately. If you wish to take the course individually, email us at welcoming+owner@uucpa.org to learn how to enroll for free as a UUCPA member.
