We will meet at 10:45 am in the church parking lot and carpool to the Masjid. We will tour the masjid and our hosts will explain some aspects of the structure. A presentation on their community describing their lifestyle, culture and characteristics will follow.
Shoes must be left outside. A scarf for women is strongly recommended.
The Dawoodi Bohras are a Muslim community of about 1.2-1.3M and our spiritual leader is HH Dr. Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS who has a permanent residence in Mumbai, India. Our diaspora is nearly worldwide, from Singapore to San Francisco, and from London to Sydney, with large concentrations in India, Pakistan, East Africa, and the Middle East. In the U.S., we number about 10,000 with 2,500 in CA where we have 6 centers.
The community lifestyle and culture characteristics are epitomized by education (women and men), family unit, civic responsibilities, respect for others, and societal investments in educational institutions, food services, hospitals, housing, and ecology. We are patriotic to the country that we reside in and live in harmony with other communities. Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and such indulgences are prohibited in our culture and lifestyle. A unique characteristic we have is to start a business (become entrepreneurs). Regarding the importance of education, our imam (Fatimid Empire) in the 10th century started the first university, Al Azhar University, in Cairo, Egypt, which flourishes today.
In Silicon Valley, our local community organization was established in 2000 and we have a congregation of 400 including 100 children. Our local professional demographics are primarily in technology with other disciplines such as medicine, architecture, law, political science, and business. HH Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS inaugurated our masjid (mosque) on San Antonio Rd in Palo Alto last year.
