Rev Cat’s Reflection on Feb 1 Installation

This past Sunday on 2/1, we celebrated the power of us during the installation service, we celebrated our connection to each other and this community.

We discovered that a living fire is actually made of the “heavy lifting” of love. It takes the sturdy wood brought by our adults, the deep, steady embers of our elders, and the fresh, bright oxygen of our children’s wonder to keep us warm.

This is the beauty of shared ministry: we are a village of fire keepers. No one need tend alone. We take turns watching the flame; we carry the wood for those who are tired, and we blow on the embers for those who have lost their spark.

My heart is also full as I look at the beautiful ceramic chalice and mini-bell gifted to me from UUCPA. They are such tactile reminders of our bond; I promise they will be put to very good use as we call each other to worship and hold the light in the days to come.

Thank you for pinning your hopes, your silliness, and your hearts to our shared hearth. Many thanks to all who made the day possible from lighting the chalice to figuring out fire logistics to ensuring the worship tech was running to helping children sing to leading the installation to making delicious food to your wonderful presence. As long as we tend this flame together, none of us will ever have to face the cold alone.

With love and gratitude,

Rev. Cat
