When the minister of the Unitarian Church in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Rev. Norbert Čapek, introduced the Flower Celebration in 1923, he asked the people of the congregation to bring flowers, and after they gathered them into one beautiful display and blessed them, each took away a different flower than the one they had brought. With the help of his wife Maja, the tradition spread throughout Unitarian Universalist congregations in the United States, and now the Flower Communion is a beloved tradition of many years wherever Unitarian Universalists are found.
Bring a flower–or more than one–and if you forget, don’t worry! In the abundant grace of community, there are always more than enough for everyone. If you’re attending online, please have a flower in view of your camera also.
In today’s service, we also joyfully welcome new members of UUCPA. After the service, please stay for the special congregational meeting to vote on whether to call Rev. Cat as our Assistant Minister of Religious Education.
Worship leaders: Revs. Catherine Boyle and Amy Zucker Morgenstern
Special music: Margaret Davis and Kristoph Klover, Celtic music
