You are invited to the Break Barriers, Build Beliefs (B4) workshop on Saturday, October 10, from 9 am to 12:30 pm. This workshop is offered by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) for congregations involved in the search for a new minister. The UUCPA Search Committee invites all lay leaders, members, and friends to participate in this workshop. It will be entirely virtual on Zoom, so you can join in your pajamas from the comfort of your home! Our facilitator, trained by UUA, is Reverend Alia Shinbrough (they/them).
Break Barriers, Build Beliefs is a highly recommended part of the search process for our congregation. In it, we will have a chance to examine how we can temper and avoid bias and prejudice becoming a part of our search process. Acknowledging bias is yet another way to put our faith into lived experience and improve the odds that, regardless of identity, we will find the minister who is the best match for us and who will serve us well. This opportunity allows the entire congregation fuller participation in the search process. It will allow us to explore our hopes and concerns for a new minister, learn more about the search process, and see how our history (both personal and congregational) might influence our efforts in this search.

Everyone! Whether or not you join the workshop, by Sunday, October 4th, please complete your B4 Beliefs Survey (yes, another survey 😃): https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UUPaloAlto. This survey will give our facilitator a better view of what biases our congregation may or may not have.
