The Action Council and the UUCPA Board recommend a NO vote on Proposition 45, which modifies timelines for environmental review for certain types of projects. This is a complex proposition, as is the California Environmental Quality law it is attempting to revise. As such, it is preferable that such changes be fully discussed and vetted by our Legislature, which has already made some improvements and is working on others. The request to oppose this proposition came to us from Janina Turner, a Senior Climate Organizer at the Climate Law Institute of the CENTER for BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY. The co-chairs of our UUCPA Green Sanctuary Committee support a NO vote on this proposition, as does the League of Women Voters, the Sierra Club and several other environmental organizations.
For additional information and analysis on this and other propositions, a good source is the Pete Rates website. Note that his analysis of Proposition 45 is very helpful.
