Healing the Divide — Sunday, October 3, 1:00 to 2:30 on Zoom
Healing the Divide is a UUCPA group which formed after the 2016 elections to ask 1) what do we not understand about others with more conservative viewpoints and 2)  what can we learn that will help us communicate even across wide differences in belief.

Our topic for September through November is the book by Valarie Kaur entitled See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love.  Conveniently, the book is divided into three major sections:

Part 1: See No Stranger: Loving Others  (September)
Part 2: Tend the Wound: Loving Opponents  (October)
Part 3: Breathe and Push: Loving Ourselves  (November)

The “love” that Kaur advocates is not romantic love or selfless Christian love (Kaur is a Sikh, and is not a pacifist).  Instead, she speaks of revolutionary love – the choice to enter into wonder and labor for others, for our opponents, and for ourselves.

Unfortunately, the Santa Clara Library system appears to have only one copy of the book available.  The book (which is available in a new paperback edition) can be ordered through Amazon or your favorite book store.  If you missed our first meeting  you might want to get an introduction to her approach by watching her TED talk:

https://www.ted.com/talks/valarie_kaur_3_lessons_of_revolutionary_love_in_a_time_of_rage

Although that 20-minute video necessarily compresses her message,  it is an exceptionally good introduction to her approach to healing the divide.

Zoom information will be provided on heal-the-divide@uucpa.org a day or two before the meeting.  If you are not a member of that email list, you can request to join by sending a message to heal-the-divide+subscribe@uucpa.org.

Hope to see you there!
