Several members of Healing the Divide have let me know that they would like to attend an online event sponsored by Braver Angels this Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30, which overlaps the planned Healing the Divide meeting.  The work of the Braver Angels is most impressive, and very much aligned with what Healing the Divide wants to do.  So I think this is an opportunity not to miss.  Especially as they are now establishing a Silicon Valley Alliance.
So we won’t be having the previously announced Healing the Divide meeting on Saturday.  It will be postponed, probably until June 6.  I encourage you to take a look at the Braver Angels program and consider registering at Braver Angels: Reuniting America. Learn how to discuss political issues without anger .  It’s free.  I just signed up, and there were 14 places left.  –Susan Owicki

Healing the Divide, Next meeting date: TBD
Healing the Divide is a UUCPA group which formed after the 2016 elections to ask 1) what do we not understand about others with more conservative view points and 2)  what can we learn that will help us communicate even across wide differences in belief.

Likely in June, we will have our first Zoom meeting.  The Zoom link will be distributed through the email list heal-the-divide@uucpa.org.  If you aren’t on that list, you can join it by sending an email to heal-the-divide+subscribe@uucpa.org.

Before shelter-in-place, we planned that our April meeting would discuss Chapter 4 from the book Beyond Contempt: How Liberals Can Communicate Across the Great Divide, by Erica Etelson. The chapter is called “Curiosity — The Antidote to Contempt.”   It’s only 20 pages long, but there’s lots of good stuff there.   The April meeting was canceled and the discussion was postponed til the next time we meet.
For the next meeting, If you don’t have the book, or don’t want to read that much, you could take a look at this article by Erica Etelson, “How to Talk to the Covid-19 Deniers in Your Life.”  I’ll try to include some information from the book to amplify what’s in the article.
Hope to “see” you there!
