A weekly online sacred text reading group. At the moment, we are using a very well-traveled practice called lectio divina, which takes numerous forms–our approach is outlined in this document.

With that practice as our guide, during each session we explore a different brief scriptural text in depth. The aims of the sessions are educational (learning something about the texts and traditions), spiritual/moral (discovering what the texts ask of us), and community-building (getting to know each other better). Amy will have a version of the text available to share; “bring” your own if you like. All are welcome, as are your suggestions of future texts.

On Saturday, August 29, we’re focusing in on a very small snippet of text. Appropriately for Water Communion weekend, we’ll be diving into this quatrain from Robert Frost’s poem “Going for Water.”

Each laid on other a staying hand

To listen ere we dared to look,

And in the hush we joined to make

We heard, we knew we heard the brook.

For context, you can read the full poem here.

A weekly online sacred text reading group with Amy

Using a spiritual-practice approach, in each session we will explore a different brief scriptural text in depth. About half our readings so far have been those suggested by group members.
