Sci-Fi / Fantasy Discussion Group

When

10/16/2024
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Event Type

We’ll discuss the novel SaturnAlia by Grant Callin.
This book is out of print and doesn’t seem to be in libraries. There are used copies available on Amazon and possibly an audio version on Audible and Apple Books. Several people have bought used print copies they are willing to share. Ping this list if you can share or need a shared copy.
From an online review:
“Rousing space opera with near-future tech

Unlike other sci-fi universes, Saturnalia has near-current technology. There is practical fusion power, though it’s not cheap. Travel to other Solar System planets and living in space is common, though Earth is trying its best to insert politics-as-usual into the hard-nosed business of exploiting outer space.

The protagonist starts out as a mild-mannered archaeology professor and becomes – well, that would be telling.
One of the best ‘buddy’ books I’ve read in many years. Rousing action and adventure, with science as plausible as you can get. This takes me back to the days when engineers wrote science fiction.”

At the end of the meeting, we will choose a book for our January meeting.

Le Guin), Red Moon (Kim Stanley Robinson); past television and movies include Arrival, Blink (Doctor Who), Serenity and The Train Job (Firefly), and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
