Trans Experience and Spirituality: A Welcoming Congregation seminar
Please join UUCPA’s Welcoming Congregation team on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 7:30 pm – 9 pm, for an engaging Zoom seminar on the diversity of the transgender community, the experiences of transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer people within Unitarian Universalism, and the spiritual meaning at the heart of their personal journeys.
The Zoom seminar will feature selections from the online course series “Transgender Inclusion in Congregations,” developed by UU leaders Rev. Mykal O’Neal Slack and Zr. Alex Kapitan and the Transforming Hearts Collective. Join us to learn and discuss!
The meeting password will be emailed to the Announce and CYRE Parents email lists the day before the meeting. If you don’t get the password, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org and request it.
UUCPA has been recognized as a Welcoming Congregation for LGBTQ+ UU’s since 1999, and the UUA recently called on UU churches to formally renew our commitment and respond to the evolving needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ people. The UUA issued this call, in part, to ensure that churches like ours provide a welcoming spiritual home for transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer UUs.
Slack and Kapitan’s “Transgender Inclusion in Congregations” course has been praised highly by those congregations that have used it. UUCPA has purchased access to the course as part of our Welcoming Congregation renewal effort. On Sept. 30, you’ll learn how you can keep exploring the course, whether on your own or together with friends or your small group.
Gratefully and in solidarity,
Susan Owicki (she/her/hers) and Matt Rosin (he/him/his) on behalf of UUCPA’s Welcoming Congregation renewal effort
