Over the past year, Amy has been periodically offering a class entitled “White Folks Dismantling White Supremacy”.  In Amy’s classes, attendees have listened to some of the Scene on Radio podcast series called “Seeing White” and had discussions of racism in our culture.

The Action Council and the Adult Religious Education Committee are now sponsoring an expanded version of Amy’s class.  The new class will meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday evenings of each month from 7:15 to 8:45 via Zoom.

  • The first class began on Tuesday, August 11, with another episode from Scene on Radio, led by Amy.
  • The second class is on Tuesday, August 25. We will start the session by exploring together what we’d like to get out of these sessions over the next few months. We’ll then watch and discuss a brief video of the author Robin DiAngelo speaking about her book White Fragility. To finish, we’ll introduce you to the Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge from an organization called America & Moore and you will have an opportunity to create your own habit-building challenge for the coming month. (You do not need to have attended the August 11 session to come to the next one and no preparation is needed.)
  • As a reminder, the third session will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:15 pm and will be focused on episode 4 of the “Seeing White” podcast from Scene On Radio.

We anticipate the class will continue in this format throughout the fall, with the second Tuesday sessions focused on podcasts and the fourth Tuesday sessions focused on action and reflection.  Stay tuned for more details!

If you would like to participate in these sessions, please sign up to be on the class email list by sending an email to DismantlingWhiteSupremacy+subscribe@uucpa.org.
