We are called into community, in love and by one another. Ministry is always a relationship, and when entered into with seriousness and intention, it affirms the congregation’s commitment to its mission.
Starting soon, UUCPA will reflect on ministry and our calling to faith formation, that is, the lifelong learning journey. With this service, our guest speaker helps us enter that period with love and commitment to each other.
Dr. Melissa James (full bio here) brings nearly 20 years of experience in faith-based ministry. She earned her Master of Arts with a focus on faith and justice, and a Ph.D. in Ethics and Social Theory from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Although Lutheran in background, she has been Director of Family and Lifespan Ministry at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego; focused on helping congregations support Trans and non-binary children, youth, and their families in her work as a Fahs Fellow at Meadville Lombard Theological School; and worked in campus ministry as well as teaching in local universities. She is now on the Congregational Life Field Staff of the UUA and is UUCPA’s primary contact with our region.
